Assassin's Honor Interview

Q: What made you want to write this book?

A: I became fascinated with the idea of writing an epic fantasy buddy flick, something lighter and funnier than some of my more recent series, and creating a book with the feel of an epic fantasy without the epic length. I think that Assassin’s Honor delivers on all of those points!

Q: Where do you get your storylines from?

A: Everywhere! I’ll see something on TV and think...I wonder what would be different in another time period, or with magic, or with supernatural creatures. Or I’ll read about a cool new monster or bit of folklore, and all of a sudden get the idea for a whole book plot. Often I’ll read or watch something about history and think about how that element would work in one of my books. Ideas are everywhere!

Q: Was this book easier to write than others?

A: Easier in one way because it’s shorter than my other epic fantasy novels, and I think it went a little faster because it has so much humor in it. Ridge, Rett and Henri really came to life in my mind, which always makes writing easier.

Q: Do you only write one genre?

A: No. I write epic fantasy and urban fantasy, and with my husband, Larry N. Martin, I also write comedic horror and steampunk/alternate history. Then under my Morgan Brice pen name, I write urban fantasy MM paranormal romance. Something for everyone!

Q: Do you have a specific place or setting where you write?

A: I write wherever I am. I’ve written in cars, on trains, in airplanes, on cruise ships, in hotels, in restaurants and coffee shops. I’ve even written at picnic tables while camping or at a park!

Q: Describe what made you want to be a writer?

A: I love to tell stories, and I’ve always loved to read stories. I decided I wanted to be a writer when I was 14, when I realized that I could choose that as a career path. It took a while to get here!
