Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge
I love to cook and rarely make the same thing twice.
I’m a retired librarian, yet I still love reviewing books and copy editing. Both are enjoyable challenges.
I also love music.
Can something that has been a profession still be a hobby?
I’m not sure. For a great part of my life singing and performing is what I did.
Now I’m retired, but I still haven’t left it behind by any means. Most of my
performing is now done in a choral setting, but I still love to perform. So why
do performers feel the need to be on that stage?
I’ve been married two times. This second marriage has lasted 37 years. But this husband, he didn’t know me as a musician and he isn’t a music fan other than to enjoy a few types of music now and then. It’s extremely hard to explain to a non-musician the need to perform. I’m sure at times it has seemed prima donna-ish, as if I desired or required attention, needed to show off. I could say I want to share my passion with others and make people smile.
I could say I enjoy the immense camaraderie
that exists among a group of people working for the same purpose. A group of people trying to speak the same language and note and rhythm at precisely the same time and volume together. I could say trying to read language, rhythm, notes and dynamics and watch a director together is very good for the brain. So, I suppose I’ve explained the what and the why, haven’t
I? I can’t stop, can’t stay away, love music, love to sing?
I’d say the "why" is all of the above. I hope you enjoy music no
matter the medium nor the genre.

If you've taken the time to stop by, I would really enjoy it if you'd leave a "hi, how ya doin' or something"
Singing is a cool hobby/profession! I love cooking, too.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot in common Lydia
DeleteI love music, too. I've always got my headphones in my ears, listening to something. I can't imagine not liking music. Librarian sounds like a great job. Surrounded by all of those books!
ReplyDeleteBooks and music. Wonderful, huh? Unfortunately, since many libraries never have enough staff, few have time to read. Then again, what is time away from work for...READING.
DeleteWe could be sisters from another mister.... but my performing (although I love singing in choirs) is acting. I understand completely... it's such a fulfilling thing!
ReplyDeleteNice to have someone understand. Welcome. P.S. I was adopted :)
DeleteHow impressive that you rarely make the same thing twice. That's great! You must be very talented in the kitchen. I think of writing like you do singing. It was a hobby, it's one of my trades, and maybe one day it will just be a hobby again. Have to do it. It's like breathing. Thanks for sharing today.

Thank you for the link. You understand that fine line between hobby and "life" don't you? I have a few recipes I make but I wouldn't ever say twice. I tend to experiment a lot so they aren't the same exactly, maybe the same idea. Fortunately I have a hubby that doesn't mind being an experimentee. He's the one that tells everyone he never has the same thing twice and especially if he says he likes it :)
DeleteI do believe that something that was once a profession can become a hobby! Cooking - and especially baking - is something I also enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMy post
Thanks Aymee
DeleteMusic and cooking are good hobbies! I wish I could do both better.
ReplyDeleteBet you can!
DeleteI'm a decent cook but a horrible singer -- which, I admit, doesn't always stop me. Singing -- and music in general -- really is just fun. So very nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I bet you aren't a horrible singer but enjoying it is most important. Same with cooking! Nice to meet you too.
