Are you on any medication? Would you like to know what you take?
Long ago, and I mean looong ago, there were books printed
that contained lists of diseases and symptoms as well as some easy possible
remedies. I’m sure they still exist. This book has some of that information,
but it fits our world today. Since we have become so sophisticated so have our
“home treatments”. OTC remedies are available for almost everything. We also
want to know what is in the meds we have been prescribed. Dr. Andrea Palfia has
put together a book with specific illnesses and medicinal treatments. More
importantly, she has listed ingredients and what they mean. Whether it’s an OTC
drug or a prescription, you can see what those giant scary words listed as ingredients
mean.
Many topics are covered in the book. From basic things like
tooth care and what is in most toothpastes to kidney disease. Written by a
pharmacist, as you can imagine this is pretty technical. I think that is what
will determine the buyer. What this is not is a type of medical book put
together to look up ailments and/or symptoms. A quite useful book, depending on
the depth of information one is looking for.

Edema/Diuretics
Swelling in the ankles, feet, and legs is often caused by a
build-up of fluid in these areas called edema.
Diuretics are medicines that help reduce fluid buildup in
the body because of heart failure or other medical problems.
Diuretics are sometimes called water pills.
Most diuretics help the kidneys remove salt and water
through the urine.
As a result, blood pressure goes down.
