My Review

This will certainly catch your attention. There are so many speculative books out there about MK-ULTRA. This is a psychological thriller. A somewhat fictional story from the so-called horse’s mouth. An author who participated in the program as a child. Good read but also well-written. It’s a great debut novel.

About the Author

Bill Yarborough has enjoyed writing for many years. Manhattan Book Group will publish his debut novel, Memories of MK-ULTRA, in September 2024. The story is inspired by repressed memories from his young childhood where he, his brother, and his sister recall undergoing experiments of the CIA’s MK-ULTRA mind control program. Bill is also working on a sequel to his first novel, and his short story “Night Mother” was published by Prolific Press in an anthology of short stories, Jitter Issue # 8. Bill also co-authored emotional health articles in The Diablo Gazette Magazine, and he and his wife, Inge, are working on a book entitled EFT on Steroids.

Bitter Night: A McLaren Mystery by Jo A Hiestand

This is a great series with a great character. I often continue to read a series because of the character. This one is named Michael McLaren. He’s a good man who’s caring, a little moody now and then, and always fair. He seems to have an instinct for plotting the steps a killer took. He somehow knows to look in the right places. He’s also in love with his new wife Melanie. And this time, it’s Melanie who can’t let go of a hunch. Why would someone hide a photo and an article inside a wall? It sure wasn’t what she expected to find when she was remodeling. She was sure she could talk Mike into following it up, and of course, being the beautiful love of his life, she could. What he found was not just one story, not just one murder.

In The Sea of Death, Cody and Jake are spending some time with Sarah drifting along in his beautiful yacht, Far Niente. The ocean is a wonderful place until…well, there’s always an “until” with Jake and Cody. They are important to the country. While both Jake and his war dog, Cody, have had problems with PTSD, the US authorities have plenty of confidence in these heroes and have armed Jake with a US Marshals badge. Not only a badge but also plenty of leeway to put the bad guys away one way or another. But as happens many times, nobody wants revenge more than the bad guys.
