Trailridge

Trailridge: A Guy Hogan MysteryTrailridge: A Guy Hogan Mystery by Kevin Wolf
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Did the author get his character name from his own last name? I don’t know but his character, Guy Hogan, is a lone wolf in many ways. Trying to hide away or run away from the loss of his wife, he uses the woods and a fishing hole for a sort of refuge. Somehow though, a body and a pretty girl invade his peaceful spot.

I like this character, Guy Hogan. The picture Kevin Wolf painted in my mind is a woodsy, tough, and sad guy with one of those “leave me alone” looks. Rather like a western Humphrey Bogart. And I liked both the character and the story.

In fact, I didn’t put this one down much. There are some layers of sneaky crimes going on in this story. It strings you along wondering who you can trust. Layers or not, there was never a time it wasn’t clear to me. It takes a certain amount of skill to create a story with a lot going on and keep the reading flowing and still never confuse the reader. Kevin Wolf did that in this one.

In the back of the book is a short excerpt from another Guy Hogan series. You can be assured I’ll be watching for it.
