Books I Want Youth to Discover

Once again, sort of a hard post for me. Too many books, thank goodness...  :)

There are some books I think kids of all ages should have fun with...Little Women, Swiss Family Robinson, many modern ones I don't know of.

There are some every day classics that I still think even today are a good read and a good thing to have in one's repertoire of reading...Grapes of Wrath, Lord of the Flies, The Leatherstocking Tales, The Good Earth, Jane Ayre, Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged and hundreds more I could list.

The idea is to never be done. For there to be more books than one can get read, ever.

Someday what we thought were classics will be all forgotten and dusty and much newer books will be the "classics".

*But the truth is...I don't think it matters as much WHAT the youth of today read. I think it matters that they READ.

  1. I almost added Fountainhead to mine ... I read most of the ones on your list as a teen or adult, and enjoyed them very much. Good choices!

  2. Agreed! There are books out there for every personality and interest.

I like the fact that you included so many classics in your list. Jane Eyre and The Good Earth are particularly wonderful books.

    My post.

  3. Okay, I'm not familiar with The Leatherstocking Tales at all. I shall have to fix this.

  5. I tried to read Fountainhead and just couldn't. Oh well. I like the other ones on the list. :-)

  6. I will always remember being forced to read Lord of the Flies at school. I somehow think I'd have liked it much better if I'd read it under my own steam.
