What made you want to write this book?
Retribution is romantic suspense, a genre where the suspense element
and the romantic relationship are equally important to the plot. I wanted to
give a rich emotional
depth to the story by constructing complex character arcs
in a story that merges the deeper elements of life, love and hope. Retribution
does not follow the usual formula for this genre… It is romantic suspense with
a twist.
This story is my way of paying tribute to the people who have
endured more than most. Those who have lived hellish childhoods, those who have
fought for our freedom, those who have experienced unimaginable trauma and
those who may never recover from their suffering. With the overarching theme of
forgiveness and redemption, Retribution pays homage to the human condition in
all its glory and misery.
Where do you get your storylines from?
They beam in fully
formed from inspired consciousness. I never sit down and think up a story-line.
They are given to me.
Was this book easier to write than others? Why?
Compared to my
previous books, which were erotic romance, I think Retribution was a little
harder because there weren’t any sex scenes, which I find easy to write, to use
up the word count.
Do you only write one genre?
Do you only write one genre?
No. My latest
release, Island of Secrets, is a
romantic mystery, set in Hawaii, told across forty years. I have just finished
my first amateur sleuth, murder mystery in the Diana Daniels Murder Mystery
series. I’m also going to rework a children’s book that’s been sitting my
drawer for twenty years. Whatever beams in, I write.
Do you have a specific
place or setting where you write?
I write in my
purpose-built office overlooking a canal on the Gold Coast, Australia. It is a
magical space and the only place I write, unless I’m traveling, and am forced
to write
elsewhere. But I prefer to work in my office with its large desk,
monitor, variable desk and amazing outlook.
Describe what made you
want to be a writer?
Having been an
entertainer on the stage and screen, I have always been a story-teller. Writing
is story-telling on the page, so it was natural progression for me. I write
because I’m driven to entertain, enrich and empower people.
